Nationwide Voter Registration To Kick Off In August 2025.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) across Nigeria, set to begin on 18th August 2025. This significant step in the nation’s electoral process aims to ensure that all eligible Nigerians, particularly young people, women, and persons with disabilities, can register to vote in upcoming elections.
Online registration will commence on 18th August 2025, offering a convenient option for citizens to enrol from the comfort of their homes. This digital platform is expected to streamline the process, making it accessible to a broader audience. For those preferring traditional methods, in-person registration will start a week later, on 25th August 2025, at designated centres nationwide.
The announcement, made by INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu during a quarterly consultative meeting in Abuja, underscores the commission’s commitment to expanding voter access. The CVR is a critical part of preparations for a series of elections scheduled for 2025 and 2026, including bye-elections in 12 states on 16th August 2025 and the Anambra State Governorship election on 8th November 2025. Further elections, such as the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections and governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States, are planned for 2026.
INEC has urged all eligible voters, especially those who have recently turned 18 or relocated, to take advantage of this registration period to ensure their voices are heard in the democratic process. The commission emphasised that the registration exercise is inclusive, encouraging participation from all segments of society.
To register online, citizens can visit the INEC Continuous Voter Registration Portal, while in-person registration will be available at local electoral offices and other designated locations. The commission has assured the public that detailed guidelines and requirements will be provided to facilitate a smooth registration process.
This initiative marks a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s democracy, offering an opportunity for millions to engage in shaping the nation’s future. Eligible voters are encouraged to act promptly and register within the specified timelines to secure their place on the electoral roll.
