NAF Airstrike Eliminates Bandits, Repels Attack In Katsina.
The Air Component of Operation FASAN YANMA has successfully eliminated several bandits in an airstrike at Yauni Hill, Zakka Ward of Safana Local Government Area, Katsina State.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, also thwarted an attack on personnel of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, according to a statement released on Monday by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force (NAF), AVM Olusola Akinboyewa.
Akinboyewa explained that the airstrike was launched following intelligence reports of a planned terrorist attack on an MPF location in the community, where bandits had already killed two security personnel and four vigilantes. Further surveillance confirmed that the assailants were taking refuge on Yauni Hill.
“In a swift and decisive response, NAF air assets were deployed for an air interdiction mission. Upon arrival, the targets were identified and engaged,” he stated.
The operation dealt a significant blow to the criminal elements, reinforcing ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the region.
Meanwhile, Akinboyewa addressed concerns over reports alleging civilian casualties in the airstrike, stating that while such claims were distressing, they remained allegations pending a thorough investigation.
“As a professional force dedicated to the protection of Nigeria and its people, the NAF operates under strict rules of engagement and adheres to internationally accepted standards,” he assured.
In response to these concerns, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation to verify the claims and take necessary action based on the findings.
Akinboyewa urged the public to remain calm as the investigation unfolded, reaffirming the NAF’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of innocent lives.
