Makinde Presents Certificate, Staff Of Office To Oba Abimbola Owoade As Alaafin Of Oyo.
IBADAN, OYO STATE – In a significant ceremony held at the Oyo State Government House in Agodi, Ibadan, the state capital, Governor Seyi Makinde has officially presented the certificate and staff of office to the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade.
The event took place on Monday, marking a formal acknowledgment of Prince Owoade’s selection as the successor to the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the 44th Alaafin of Oyo, who passed away two years ago. The announcement of Prince Owoade as the Alaafin-elect was made by the state government last Friday.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of the kingmakers, known as Oyomesi, alongside top government officials and distinguished personalities from Oyo State. Governor Makinde, who had earlier approved Owoade’s appointment, made the presentation in a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade.
It is worth recalling that the Oyo Kingmakers had previously selected Prince Lukman Gbadegesin as the next monarch. However, his nomination was rejected by the government due to alleged affiliations with Fulani herdsmen, leading to the selection of Oba Abimbola Owoade.
This transition marks a new chapter for the Yoruba monarchy in Oyo, bringing forth leadership and tradition into the modern era under the guidance of Oba Owoade.
