Lagos Police Conduct Controlled Explosion Drill To Enhance Safety At Eko Atlantic City.

The Lagos State Police Command has reassured residents, workers, and visitors in Eko Atlantic City not to be alarmed by loud explosive sounds scheduled for Thursday, 28 August 2025. The noises are part of a planned Improvised Explosive Device (IED) simulation exercise conducted by the Nigeria Police Force’s Explosives Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit. The drill, aimed at bolstering emergency response capabilities, is a routine measure to ensure preparedness for potential bomb-related incidents.

According to CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, the exercise will involve controlled detonations carried out by specialised teams trained to handle explosive threats. “This is a proactive step to strengthen our ability to respond effectively to emergencies,” Hundeyin stated in a press release issued on Wednesday. He clarified that while residents may hear blast sounds, there will be no shrapnel or associated risks, and comprehensive safety measures have been implemented to protect lives and property.

Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh appealed for public cooperation, urging those in and around Eko Atlantic City to remain calm and continue their daily activities. “This exercise is designed to keep Lagosians safe, and we ask for your understanding as we carry out this critical training,” he said. The police emphasised that the drill is part of ongoing efforts to enhance security in the state, reflecting their commitment to public safety.

The announcement has been met with appreciation from community leaders, who view the exercise as a vital step in ensuring Lagos remains a secure hub for residents and businesses. Eko Atlantic City, a burgeoning economic centre, is a key focus forEAD for such proactive security measures. The police have assured the public that further updates will be provided as needed, reinforcing their dedication to transparency and safety.
