In response to the tragic ambush of security personnel in Imo State, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Aboki Danjuma, has vehemently condemned the heinous act perpetrated by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Okoye Henry, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday along Old Gariki Road, Okigwe, where personnel of Mopol 18, Owerri, fell under attack. The assailants, believed to be armed with dynamite, engaged the officers in a fatal confrontation, resulting in the death of two officers while four others survived the onslaught.

CP Aboki Danjuma, in collaboration with the Commander of Mopol 18 and 64, led an operation to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.

The Assistance Commissioner of Police in charge of Okigwe, alongside the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and other Tactical Units stationed in the area, have been directed to intensify visibility patrols, conduct intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts, and establish robust surveillance to preempt any future incidents.

The CP has urged residents of Okigwe and the general public to remain vigilant and report any relevant information that could aid in the investigation. He assured them of the  commitment of law enforcement agencies to safeguard their lives and property, so they should feel free to  go about their lawful activities without fear.

CP Aboki Danjuma expressed his sincere sympathies to the families, relatives, and loved ones of the fallen officers and reaffirmed his uncompromising position against any kind of attack on state security personnel. He declares that the Imo State Command will not stand for such blatant attacks while operating under his direction and vows to take decisive action against anyone attempting to jeopardise the region’s peace and security.

For any information pertaining to the incident, the public is encouraged to contact the nearest police station or utilize the provided hotlines: 08034773600, 08103341610.
