Grandson Of Music Legend Stabbed To Death In Ondo, Suspect Arrested.
The peaceful community of Okitipupa in Ondo State has been shaken by the tragic death of Ogoirawo Omoge, a musician and grandson of renowned traditional music icon, Comfort Omoge. Ogoirawo was fatally stabbed in the throat during a violent altercation with a scavenger along the Ayeka/Igodan-Igbokoda highway.
According to eyewitness reports, the disagreement escalated quickly before bystanders could intervene. In the heat of the argument, the assailant allegedly drew a dagger and attacked Ogoirawo, fatally injuring him. He was rushed to hospital, but was sadly confirmed dead by medical personnel.
A local resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Prince Ogoirawo Omoge was brutally killed, and the attacker fled the scene immediately after the stabbing.”
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that one suspect had been arrested in connection with the killing. “Yes, I can confirm the incident occurred on April 17, 2025. One suspect has been arrested and is currently being held in custody,” Ayanlade said.
In a swift move to prevent further unrest, the Chairman of Okitipupa Local Council, Andrew Ogunsakin, convened a peace meeting with community stakeholders, including traditional rulers, youth leaders, and representatives of the Hausa/Fulani community.
Ogunsakin confirmed that the collaborative efforts between residents and security operatives led to the arrest of the suspect, identified as Machido Abubakar. He also urged the community to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that the authorities are committed to ensuring justice is served.
“The meeting has helped to strengthen our commitment to peace and mutual respect in Okitipupa. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and promise them our full support during this difficult time,” Ogunsakin said.
As the community mourns the untimely loss of a promising young musician and grandson of a cultural icon, calls for calm and justice have been echoed throughout the state.
