Federal Government Declares Public Holidays For Easter Celebration

Federal Government Declares Public Holidays For Easter Celebration.

The Federal Government has officially declared Friday, 18 April and Monday, 21 April 2025 as public holidays to commemorate Good Friday and Easter Monday.

This announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo urged Christians across the country to reflect on the values of sacrifice, love, and redemption exemplified by the life and death of Jesus Christ. He emphasised that Easter offers an opportunity to meditate on the selflessness of Christ’s crucifixion and the hope brought by His resurrection.

The minister also called on Nigerians to use the Easter period to pray for peace, unity, and stability within the nation. He expressed hope that the season would inspire renewed commitment to national harmony and shared progress.

“Easter reminds us of the profound love of Jesus Christ and His ultimate sacrifice for mankind. It is a time for sober reflection and an opportunity to show love to one another,” he stated.

Recognising Easter as one of the most significant observances in the Christian calendar, Tunji-Ojo extended warm wishes to all Christian faithful, encouraging them to celebrate peacefully and joyously.

The Easter public holidays will afford Nigerians the time to gather with loved ones, observe religious traditions, and join in national prayers for continued progress and unity.
