FBI Arrests Man Wanted In India Over Terrorism Allegations.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced the arrest of Harpreet Singh, a man wanted in India for alleged involvement in terrorist activities. Singh was apprehended on Thursday in Sacramento, California, after reportedly entering the United States illegally and evading authorities for some time.
According to a statement released by the FBI, Singh had been using disposable phones and encrypted applications to avoid detection. He is suspected of collaborating with Pakistan’s intelligence services and a terrorist group linked to the Sikh separatist movement.
India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) had earlier declared Singh a wanted man in connection with a grenade attack on a retired police officer in Chandigarh in September. In January, a cash reward was issued for information leading to his capture.
Indian authorities have accused Singh of providing logistical support, financial backing, and ammunition to operatives associated with Babbar Khalsa International, a group designated as a terrorist organisation.
The arrest is the latest in a series of actions taken against individuals with alleged links to militant separatist movements. Indian security agencies have issued warrants against at least 10 Indian nationals residing in the United States in recent years, including Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who was allegedly the target of an assassination plot in New York involving Indian operatives.
Singh’s arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts by both American and Indian authorities to address cross-border terrorism and strengthen international cooperation in security and intelligence operations.
