FA Cup Fifth Round: Manchester United And Newcastle Knocked Out As Quarter-Final Line-Up Is Confirmed.

The FA Cup fifth round saw major upsets over the weekend, with Manchester United and Newcastle United both suffering surprise exits. Fulham knocked out United on penalties, while Brighton edged past Newcastle after extra time.

 

At Old Trafford, Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw with Fulham before losing 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shootout. The defeat marks another setback for Erik ten Hag’s side, who had been hoping for a strong cup run.





 

Newcastle United also saw their FA Cup hopes dashed, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Brighton after extra time. Despite taking the game beyond 90 minutes, Eddie Howe’s team were unable to progress.

 

Elsewhere, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Preston North End, Bournemouth, and Manchester City all booked their places in the quarter-finals. Bournemouth secured their spot by defeating Wolves 5-4 on penalties, while City advanced comfortably with a 3-1 win over Plymouth Argyle.

 

The final fifth-round fixture between Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town will be played on Monday night, with the winner set to face Brighton in the next round.

With the quarter-finals now set, several intriguing matchups await. Preston North End will look to cause an upset against Aston Villa, while Fulham and Crystal Palace will battle for a place in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, defending champions Manchester City will travel to Bournemouth as they continue their pursuit of silverware.

 

The FA Cup continues to deliver excitement, with more drama expected in the next round.
