The United States and the European Union co-hosted the inaugural high-level Minerals Security Partnership (MSP) Forum event, spearheaded by Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez, and Deputy Director-General for Trade Leopoldo Rubinacci.
The virtual forum welcomed ministers and high-level officials from MSP partner countries and mineral-producing nations.
The MSP, established in June 2022, aims to strengthen partnerships with mineral-producing countries by promoting high environmental, social, and governance standards.
This first forum, following its official launch by Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and European Commission Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis in April 2024, focused on deepening cooperation and developing individual projects to ensure resilient and diversified supply chains of critical minerals.
Key objectives and a roadmap for the MSP Forum were shared by the U.S. and EU co-chairs, emphasizing two main work streams: project development and policy dialogue. In addition to laying out these plans, the forum celebrated the inclusion of eight new members: Argentina, Greenland, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Namibia, Peru, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
