Court Admits Tapes Of Nnamdi Kanu’s Incendiary Broadcasts.
A Federal High Court has admitted into evidence tapes of broadcasts made by Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in which he allegedly called for the killings of President Bola Tinubu and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The tapes were played in court during the testimony of a Department of State Services (DSS) official, who stated that Kanu confirmed making the broadcasts. In one of the recordings, Kanu announced a N100 million bounty for Wike’s head and called for the burning of all Federal Government property in Lagos and Tinubu’s assets.
The court also admitted a letter of complaint dated June 10, 2021, by the then Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, to the Director General of the DSS, demanding an investigation into Kanu’s alleged terrorist activities.
The letter accused Kanu of encouraging the commission of crimes, including killings and destruction of public property, through his broadcasts. The AGF cited specific instances where Kanu allegedly incited his followers to attack security personnel and prominent individuals.
The broadcasts, which were played in court, showed Kanu making various pronouncements, including the formation of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a vigilante outfit aimed at safeguarding the South-East region.
Kanu’s trial continues, with the prosecution presenting evidence to support the charges against him. The case has sparked significant interest, given the implications of Kanu’s alleged actions on national security and stability.
