Tragedy Strikes As 20 Kano Contingent Die In Devastating Auto Crash.

 

A devastating accident has claimed the lives of 20 people, including athletes, journalists, medical personnel, and administrators, who were part of the Kano State contingent returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State. The incident occurred on Saturday morning around 9 am when the vehicle carrying the team fell off a bridge in Dakstalle town, approximately 50 kilometers from Kano.

 

According to reports, the team had been traveling overnight since Thursday night after the completion of the festival. The Kano contingent had participated in the 22nd National Sports Festival, also known as the Gateway Games 2025, and won 29 medals, including gold, silver, and bronze.

 

The cause of the accident is yet to be determined, but the incident has sent shockwaves throughout the state and the whole sport family. The Kano State Government has expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

 

The National Sports Festival, initiated in 1973, aims to promote peace, cultural understanding, and athletic talent development across Nigeria. The festival brings together young athletes from every corner of the country, highlighting their skills and fostering national camaraderie through sports.
