Apple Raises Apple Music Subscription Prices In Nigeria

Apple Raises Apple Music Subscription Prices In Nigeria.

Apple has announced a significant increase in its Apple Music subscription prices in Nigeria, set to take effect from 12 July 2025. The tech giant revealed plans to raise the individual plan from ₦1,000 to ₦1,300 per month, marking a 30% hike, as confirmed through emails sent to subscribers earlier this month.

The price adjustment, the first major change since November 2022, reflects Apple’s efforts to align its pricing with market dynamics and rising operational costs, including licensing fees. This move comes amid a notable growth in Nigeria’s subscriber base, which has more than doubled over the past year, with streams increasing by 119% year-on-year. The company has also expanded its presence across 37 African countries, up from just 12 previously, highlighting its commitment to the continent’s burgeoning music market.

While the exact reasons for the hike remain unspecified, analysts suggest it may be influenced by the Naira’s depreciation against the dollar and increased competition from platforms like Spotify, Boomplay, and Audiomack, which offer competitive pricing. Apple Music continues to differentiate itself with features such as Sound Therapy, 24/7 Chill radio, and locally curated playlists, aiming to retain its growing Nigerian audience.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions online, with some users expressing frustration over the cost increase, while others appreciate the enhanced features and support for local artists. Apple has assured subscribers that existing plans will remain at current rates until the new pricing takes effect, giving users time to adjust or explore alternatives.

This development underscores Apple’s strategic focus on Africa’s music industry, with potential plans to roll out similar adjustments across other markets. As the date approaches, all eyes will be on how Nigerian music enthusiasts respond to the change.
