Anambra Community Celebrates Rescue And Restoration After 15-Hour Security Operation.
A daring 15-hour operation by combined security forces in Anambra State has brought relief to the community of Awa in Orumba North Local Government Area, with the successful rescue of a kidnapped victim and the neutralisation of four armed hoodlums. The operation, conducted on 21 August 2025, targeted a criminal camp run by a separatist group, marking a significant victory in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria’s South-east.
The Anambra State Police Command, led by Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that operatives from the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu, alongside the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, stormed the hideout based on credible intelligence. The raid resulted in the safe rescue of a hostage, who had been held despite a N20 million ransom payment by the victim’s family. The operation also led to the recovery of a significant cache of items, including arms, ammunition, two empty gas cylinders, three bags of 50 kg rice, a black Lexus RX 350 SUV, four Toyota Camry cars, and various personal effects.
Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu praised the operatives for their bravery and coordination, assuring residents that the police remain committed to dismantling criminal networks across the state. “This operation demonstrates our resolve to ensure safety and security for all in Anambra,” he said. Ongoing efforts are underway to apprehend fleeing suspects and destroy remaining criminal hideouts.
Local residents expressed gratitude for the security forces’ efforts, with many noting the operation’s success as a beacon of hope amid rising insecurity in the region. Community leader Chukwudi Nnamdi described the rescue as “a triumph for our people, who have lived in fear of these criminals for too long.” He urged continued collaboration between security agencies and local vigilantes to maintain peace.
The operation’s success has bolstered confidence in Anambra’s security framework, with residents hopeful that sustained efforts will curb the activities of armed groups. As the state recovers from the ordeal, the focus remains on ensuring lasting peace and stability for Awa and surrounding communities.
