Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield Advocates For Stronger Peacebuilding At UN Security Council

At a recent UN Security Council Open Debate in New York, U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield emphasized the crucial role of peacebuilding and the New Agenda for Peace.

Speaking to a packed room, she commended the Council’s President for convening the session and expressed gratitude to ASG Spehar, Commissioner Adeoye, and civil society briefers Ms. Samai and Mr. Descardes for their valuable insights.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield noted that while the Council often focuses on resolving severe global conflicts, there is a need to shift attention towards preventing conflicts from arising in the first place. Her remarks underscored the importance of proactive peacebuilding strategies that address the root causes of conflict.

The debate highlighted a critical moment in international diplomacy, emphasizing a more forward-thinking approach to peacekeeping.

By prioritizing prevention and implementing the new agenda for peace, the Council aims to ensure long-term global stability and reduce the likelihood of future crises.
