Akwa Ibom Government Publishes Names Of Groups Benefiting From N2.4 Billion Empowerment Fund.
The Akwa Ibom State Government has released a list of 2,167 groups that have received over N2.4 billion in empowerment grants over the past two years under Governor Umo Eno’s administration. The announcement, made on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, via a Facebook post by the state’s Ministry of Information, detailed the names of the beneficiary groups, the number of members in each, and the amounts disbursed. This initiative forms part of a broader N10 billion empowerment scheme aimed at fostering sustainable livelihoods for farmers, traders, artisans, and entrepreneurs across the state.
Among the beneficiaries highlighted were 48 members of the Ibom Entertainers Forum, who received N2.4 million, 85 members of the Akwa Ibom Trader’s Welfare Association with N40.2 million, and 11 members of the Akpan Andem Market Women Association, allocated N6.4 million. Other groups included the Christian Redemption Movement and Christian Community Partners, each receiving N1 million for two members, and a single member of the Daughter of Zion group, who was granted N500,000. The funds were accessed through the online portal of the Umo Eno Support Group, ensuring a transparent and digital application process.
Governor Eno, addressing a recent rally, emphasised the importance of transparency in the disbursement process. “We won’t just hand out bulk sums to group leaders. Support groups must register on the portal, and payments are made directly to qualified individuals, with records reflecting in their groups. This way, everyone can see who has benefited,” he said. The governor added that the published list, complete with names and bank details, allows for public scrutiny, ensuring accountability and fairness in the empowerment programme.
The release of the list sparked significant discussion on social media, with some residents seeking clarification on the distribution process. Essien Ndueso, an aide to Governor Eno, addressed concerns, stating, “The government has empowered individuals within these groups, not handed lump sums to leaders. This ensures the funds reach those who need them most.” The administration’s commitment to digital registration was reiterated, with Eno urging young people to embrace the ARISE Youth Employment Portal to access opportunities, warning that unregistered individuals would not benefit.
This empowerment initiative aligns with the governor’s ARISE Agenda, which prioritises inclusive governance and economic development. The state government noted that the N2.4 billion is part of a larger effort to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), with an additional N2 billion in counterpart funding with the Bank of Industry to bolster small businesses. As Akwa Ibom continues to leverage its oil revenues and promote digital literacy, the publication of the beneficiary list underscores a push for transparency and grassroots development, aiming to uplift the state’s most vulnerable communities.
