Air Peace Flight Safely Lands In Port Harcourt Despite Runway Incident

Air Peace Flight Safely Lands In Port Harcourt Despite Runway Incident.

An Air Peace aircraft, operating Flight P47190 from Lagos to Port Harcourt, experienced a minor runway excursion upon landing at Port Harcourt International Airport on Sunday morning. The airline swiftly confirmed the incident, assuring the public that all passengers and crew disembarked safely with no injuries reported.

According to a statement from Air Peace’s spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, the aircraft, which departed from Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, veered slightly off the runway after a safe landing. The incident caused no damage to the aircraft, and passengers exited the plane calmly and without incident. The airline emphasised its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards, stating, “We reassure the flying public of our unflinching dedication to operational safety across all our services.”

The runway excursion, described as a minor deviation, did not disrupt operations at Port Harcourt International Airport, and normal activities resumed shortly after. Authorities are expected to conduct a routine investigation to determine the cause of the incident, with potential factors such as weather conditions or runway contamination under consideration, as is standard in such cases.

This marks the second runway-related incident for Air Peace in recent months, following a collision with a large antelope at Asaba International Airport in May, which grounded an aircraft but caused no harm to passengers. Despite the recurrence, aviation expert Captain Ibrahim Mshelia noted that such incidents are not uncommon globally and urged against undue alarm, highlighting the need for a thorough investigation to prevent future occurrences.

Air Peace reiterated that passenger and crew safety remains its top priority, and the airline is cooperating fully with airport authorities. The swift and safe resolution of the incident has been praised, with many commending the professionalism of the flight crew in handling the situation.
