AC Milan Triumphs Over Inter To Reach Coppa Italia Final.
AC Milan secured a commanding 3–0 victory over city rivals Inter Milan on Wednesday night, earning a place in the Coppa Italia final with a 4–1 aggregate win. Luka Jović was the standout performer, netting twice, while Tijjani Reijnders added a third to seal the Rossoneri’s progression.
The match, held at San Siro, saw Milan take control after a goalless draw in the first leg. Jović opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a precise header and doubled the lead shortly after the interval, capitalising on a corner. Reijnders completed the rout in the 85th minute, finishing off a swift counter-attack initiated by Theo Hernández and Rafael Leão.
Despite early pressure from Inter, including Federico Dimarco striking the crossbar and Lautaro Martínez missing a key opportunity, Milan’s defence remained resolute. Goalkeeper Mike Maignan delivered a solid performance, ensuring a clean sheet.
This victory marks Milan’s third win over Inter this season and extends their unbeaten run against their rivals. Under the guidance of coach Sérgio Conceição, Milan now looks forward to the Coppa Italia final on 14 May at the Stadio Olimpico, where they will face either Bologna or Empoli. Bologna currently holds a 3–0 advantage ahead of their semi-final second leg.
Conceição praised his team’s discipline and determination, stating, “This was a performance of great character. We showed our quality and unity.” He also acknowledged the fans’ support, adding, “The atmosphere was incredible, and the supporters played a big part in this victory.”
Inter’s coach, Simone Inzaghi, expressed concern over his team’s fatigue following the defeat, noting the challenges of a demanding season. He emphasised the need for resilience as they prepare for upcoming fixtures.
Milan, currently ninth in Serie A, aims to cap off the season with silverware, having already clinched the Italian Super Cup in January. The Coppa Italia final presents an opportunity to secure their first cup win since 2003.
